  • Role of the institution regarding cross-border issues

The development of cross-border collaborations is a priority for USMB.

In research, numerous collaborations are developed through Interreg projects (12 Franco-Swiss and 5 Franco-Italian projects in progress) in many fields (health, tourism, energy, etc.), through projects supported by the Alliance Campus Rhodanien and through cross-border multidisciplinary chairs. Those chairs are instruments of cooperation between academic, institutional and economic actors to meet territorial and academic expectations. The first two cross-border chairs are on mobility (www.fondation-usmb.fr/chaire-mobilite/), which aims to create a Franco-Swiss mobility institute, and on energy efficiency (www.fondation-usmb.fr/chaire-citee/).

In the field of education, exchanges have been increased thanks to double degrees with Italian universities (Torino, Trento, Genoa, Valle d’Aosta, Eastern Piedmont) but also through the development of the European university Unita (www.univ-unita.eu), of which the Università degli studi di Torino is the leader. In this context, the alliance is developing intercomprehension methods in Romance languages, in particular to facilitate Franco-Italian cooperation.

USMB is also a member of the Forum of Greater Geneva (www.grand-geneve.org/grand-geneve/participation/le-forumdagglomeration). This is an opportunity to confront points of view, exchange ideas, make proposals, and contribute to reflections on the future of Greater Geneva – The Forum is made up of 75 structures from cross-border civil society, divided into 3 colleges (economic, social and cultural, environmental) defined on the basis of the 3 pillars of sustainable development. USMB actively contributes to the economic one.
