1. Legal form

Public Structure (University)

2. General aim and the main mission of the institution

The ICRESS is an Investigation centre of the University of Perpignan that through research programs lead European projects. The Euroinstitut Catalan Transfrontalier (EiCT), is one of these European projects financed by FEDER funds. The objective is to create a Euroinstitut on the oriental French/Spanish border by the end of the project in 2013. Currently, the EICT is backed by the research centre on cross-border issues. The main mission of the EICT is to develop a training offer specialized in cross-border co-operation, territorial development and Euro-Mediterranean co-operation, for professionals of the public or private sectors and job seekers. In addition, the EICT provides consulting on cross-border project development, conducts studies and has established an interactive resource centre with physical and digital documents on cross-border issues. This close partnership, between the research centre and the EiCT project allows us to offer training modules of high quality and the possibility to develop items for applied research.

3. Role of the institution regarding cross-border issues

Within the framework of the establishment of a Eurodistrict in the Catalan cross-border area (ECT), the need to create a specific training tool in order to respond to co-operation issues has been identified. The EICT aims to meet this need in particular but also, in a broader sense, on the Franco-Spanish border. On the other side, through its essential positioning on key border issues, the laboratory ICRESS ( EA 3681 – host team), that obtained an accreditation from the French ministry of higher education and research, corresponds to the major ambition of development of the University and brings expertise in applied research on this topic. It consists of a multidisciplinary team of 20 researchers in Catalan and cross-border studies, in different fields such as tourism, sociology, law and economics, which gives a great amplitude of action and allows the ICRESS to approach transversal research topics accompanying the development of cross-border co-operation in Europe.
